WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
First and foremost are the genuine hardwood floors. They are real and they are spectacular. Whoever did them must have done it for a living as the fit and finish is great.
You’ll also love that despite having sleeping quarters, a kitchen and a bathroom it is remarkably easy to drive. No bigger than most delivery vans you can drive it and park it in a mostly normal manner. I’ve used it as a traveling picnic-mobile (with amazing views), a mobile office, a recording studio (with no EMF to make single coil pickups hum), a winter surf headquarters and a moving van. Who says it’s just for camping!
Next up, the layout. It’s only 24 feet but with the sofa and swivel chairs it makes hanging out very comfortable. The swivels recline and adjust and both are equipped with seat belts and can lock in place for travel. The sofa pulls out for a bed (note, the legs have come off so we put a cooler under the edge) and there’s the big bed over the top. The front seats swivel which makes a great place to sit up front or for the occasional guest.
The rest of the interior is in good shape with new curtains all around with lots of storage and a vinyl cover for the windshield.
IT’S FROM THE 70s!
If you already know why that’s good you can skip this part but basically, parts are cheap and plentiful, no computers or EFI to fail, simple proven technology that can be fixed by most backyard mechanics or by watching a YouTube video. It even has the MPH/KPH conversion sticker from the Carter era (he was a president). It has a Ford 460 big block that hot rodders can get over 1,000 horsepower without changing blocks. Want to drop on an Edelbrock intake or a Holley? No problem!
IT’S FROM CANADA!
This was originally sold in Canada by Chateau so it (mostly) has metric nuts and bolts. Not a big deal but if you’re bringing tools have both.
LOTS OF NEW STUFF
Here’s where dreams meet reality. We bought it for 00 off Craigslist and then dropped a quick ,000 in repairs. New brakes, gas tank, rebuilt carb, radiator, added transmission cooler, valve cover gaskets, etc. The new tires (now a few years old) we’re about 00. I just put in a new alternator with new belt (and a spare) and a new battery. I also replaced the large solar panel with a smaller, more efficient one which keeps the house battery charged. There’s an extra rv battery and controller if you wanted to run more things.
It runs well and stops well. It used to leak oil hence the valve cover gaskets but I haven’t had to add any so I’m hoping that was it.
Oh yeah, new freshwater tank and sewer plumbing. Of note, the shower currently doesn’t go into the grey water tank. It does have grey and black tanks.
INCLUDES THINGS
Not only do you get an RV, but order before midnight tonight and you get the stuff in it! Hoses, electrical cords, leveling blocks, folding chairs, cocktail tables, folding camp table with benches, a few plates, champagne glasses, heck, there’s even a couple of sleeping bags used once or twice if you need.Need to pull something? It has a hitch! I’ve never used it but might be handy for a boat, snowmobiles or whatever.
WHAT WILL DISAPPOINT YOU
eBay never fails to disappoint and this is no exception. It has some rust. I know I just lost anyone in Nevada and probably some other dry states where every piece of rubber disintegrates. If your still reading here goes. The front edge of the hood, wheel arches, fender sculpts, heater cover are all rusting and could use fixing. Or not, depending. I bought all the scrapers, bondo and paint to do it but figured I’d let the next guy grind away for a couple days. Replacement patch panels are readily available and cheap. Every town has a guy who fixes all the white vans the painters and sheetrockers drive so find that guy. I’ll just add that the rust bothers my wife more than it bothers me. You can’t see it from the inside that has AMAZING hard wood floors.
The plywood under the top bunk got wet (from a since patched leaky window) and has rotted in places. Easy enough to cut a new piece in the future or not. Your choice.
The stickers on the siding are cracked and peeling.
IT’S 43 YEARS OLD
If your younger than that it’s probably amazing that it works at all. If you’re older you’re not surprised at all. My old 1929 GE refrigerator that I found in a lot worked great. I sure miss it.
There’s a few other bits but I think if you’ve read this far you got the idea.
Happy bidding!
